GEORGE PORTER, Jr.
When he is not serving as officiant to Karen and Josh’s wedding, George Joseph Porter, Jr. is a musician best known as the bassist and singer of The Meters. Along with Art Neville, Porter formed the group in the mid 1960s and came to be recognized as one of the progenitors of funk. When Josh first met Karen, her Facebook Religion status simply read: “George Porter, Jr.” When deciding on an officiant, there was no other choice
The Nigel Hall Band
Nigel Hall is not only one of the greatest, soulful voices of the modern Jam Music scene, he is also a dear friend of the happy couple. His “old soul” charm flows as he channels Donnie Hathaway, Curtis Mayfield and Stevie Wonder, while out of his finger work delivers some of the sickest keyboard playing around. Since arriving in New York a few years ago, Nigel has taken the Jam Music world by storm with his infectious grooves and his sweet soulful voice.
Nigel has been a member of funk powerhouse Lettuce for the last few years. As well, he has toured with Robert Randolph and The Family Band, Chapter 2, The Derek Trucks Band, The John Scofield band and is currently a member of The Warren Haynes Band playing keys and singing. Hold onto every moment you have with this artist, he is as good as they get.
Nigel’s Band will consist of Adam Deitch on drums, Eric Krasno and Adam Smirnoff alternating on guitar, George Porter, Jr on bass and Nigel Hall on keys!!
Dubbed a “breakout young artist” by the New York Times, Alecia Chakour is a blues siren. Armed with a gritty, bellowing voice, she tells stories of love, heartbreak and struggle with the timelessness of an old soul reincarnate. Alecia coalesces gospel harmonies and an ardent rock and blues feel to make remarkably honest music that echoes influences such as Bobby “Blue” Bland, Mavis Staples, The Band, Sly & The Family Stone and Joe Cocker, but with a raw vulnerability all her own. The daughter of a musician, Alecia grew up in R&B and has found her home there. The past several years have seen her with a diverse roster of exciting artists, most recently as a member of The Warren Haynes Band. Alecia is now preparing her first full length album along with her extended musical family to create a unique sound that has been deftly been described as “sultry badass-ness.”
